--> Eye movements. Saccades
-->
Saccades do not disappear in darkness (V.A.Filin, V.F.Ananin, 1973). They proceed in the same rhythm with increasing
amplitude (Fig. 7).

with fixation of illumination dot (LED is on), and after is switched off. Underlined
is the fixation moment

Transfer from one amplitude to another is easily made. Switching
a luminous dot off immediately causes the saccades amplitude increase, and switching
on causes decrease. A new amplitude selection takes a short time period: 0.5-1.0 sec.
Such a transformation of saccades gives us much information. Darkness is a kind of
space with no reference points where an eye has nothing to "rest upon". The pack of
visual objects, or "a crutch" for an observer, makes eyes search, i.e. initiates saccades
of a high amplitude. In other words, oculomotor system is forced to function in a
non-economical mode demanding senseless waste of energy, meanwhile the human physiology
as a whole is bound to exist precisely in the mode of maximum efficiency.

subjects (horizontal line) with fixation of real (1) and virtual (2)
dots (fingertip of your stretched arm). t, s - mean interval between
saccades, K - asymmetry coefficient, A - amplitude, degree, min

It is extremely important to emphasize that a type of eye movements of an individual remains
the same in darkness as in case of fixation of a steady dot, i.e. it is constant.
Under these two different conditions, comparison of basic parameters indicates a large
affinity of saccadic eye movements: curves as per three parameters are of twin nature (Fig. 8).
Besides, as per amplitude only, there were observed valid differences: in darkness the
amplitude of saccades was 2 times as much than during fixation of a steady dot.
Saccadic parameter affinity under absolutely different conditions (viz: in one
case the vision functions when an eye fixes the dot, and in the other case when
the vision does not work) testifies to the fact that there exist an alliance of
saccades generation mechanism
